Kings Mountain willcelebrate the 4th of July with a “Revolutionary 4th” celebration at the WalkingTrack Park in Kings Mountain on Cleveland Avenue (Hwy 161), near the YMCA. ThisIndependence Day event begins Monday, July 4th at 6:00 pm with “The Chris Marks Band” performing at the Nessler Stage at the park with a concert featuringcountry and southern rock hits. In honor of the turning point of theRevolutionary War’s Battle of Kings Mountain (fought just south of town) a scene from “Liberty Mountain – The Revolutionary Drama” written by Bob Inman will be performed by the cast. All will lead up to the big event, the fireworks show, which many think to bethe biggest and best between Charlotte and Asheville. Come and join us for the4th! There will be a variety of food vendors available at Walking Track Parkand visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket or folding chairs to the fieldwithin the walking track. Fireworks show will begin at full dark (roughly 9:45pm).
The fireworks are alwaysshot on the 4th from Camp Thunderbird at dark (just a little after 9:00). Thebest viewing spot is on the water in the main channel south of Buster BoydBridge. The best place on land would be at The Red Fez Club but I believe you haveto be a member but not 100% sure. McDowell Park probably isn’t the best optionbut it is open to the public. There is a grass area between T-Bones and theboat landing but be aware that it gets very busy there w people and it will fill up early. Also be aware that after thefireworks the traffic, on and off the lake, will be very heavy leaving. The SChighway patrol, York County Sheriffs, CMPD, DNR, Wildlife and Gaston CountyPolice will also have a very heavy presence on and off the water, and don’t ruleout the Coast Guard making an appearance too.
Our festival has established itself as THE Event to attend for July 4th. Already one of the largest July holiday festivals in the region, it continues to grow every year. Join us this year as we celebrate America’s freedom with good ol’ Southern hospitality in Downtown Gastonia.
